This free performance is offered by The Cantata Singers\, in collaboration with the Chorus of the Southern Finger Lakes\, as a special gift to the community in appreciation for six decades of support. \nCreation is a monumental\, 75-minute celebration of the wonders of our natural world. Inspired by the narrative power of the choral tradition\, Forrest crafted this work as a “cinematic musical score” for the 21st century. The work weaves together ancient texts\, scripture\, and modern poetry to capture everything from the swirling energy of the universe’s dawn to the delicate beauty of life on Earth. \nThe performance will feature a truly global palette\, utilizing the haunting\, soulful tones of the duduk\, an ancient relative of the oboe\, representing the “breath of life\,” the shimmering brilliance of a handbell choir\, the power of a 45 piece orchestra\, and the unique sounds of many unusual percussion instruments. \nIt is a special honor to present this work in Elmira because of its deep local ties. Composer Dan Forrest grew up just outside Elmira\, in Breesport\, making this performance a true “hometown” celebration of his artistry. Following this performance\, members of our choir will be performing this work in England\, a testament to the passion and talent cultivated here in our community. \n \n \n \n \n \n Dates/times/programs are subject to change.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Ticket prices vary for each performance and are either Reserved or General Admission seating. The irrepressible Sister teaches class to a roomful of “students.” Throughout the course of the class the benevolent instructor rewards the “students” for correct answers with glow-in-the-dark rosaries and other nifty prizes. Naughty students may well find themselves on stage sitting in a corner reflecting their actions. However\, even the most reluctant “students” will be clamoring to get into this Sister’s class. What to do with YOUR Thing One and Thing 2?!  \nHere’s an idea: Bring the whole family to the Worlds Number 1 ‘The Cat in the Hat’ show for an experience they’ll never forget. The story has been around for over 50 years and kids still love it… just like you did!  \nTwo bored kids (This was way before iPads). One rainy day (We’ve all had a few of those) And one crazy cat wearing a red-striped hat (Where was the background check for that babysitter?!)  \nIn 1957\, Dr Seuss used only 200 words to write his classic tale. More than 50 years later\, The Cat in the Hat is a much-loved children’s phenomenon. The play was adapted for the stage in 2009 by the National Theatre of Britain. The Cat in The Hat interrupts this rainy afternoon with his unexpected visit to Sally and her brother’s cozy home. Their outspoken and outraged pet Fish is astounded and concerned\, but this cat will not be deterred. He will teach us all to make our own fun with nothing but a little imagination. “It’s fun to have fun\, but you have to know how” Along with Thing One and Thing Two\, the cat will fill the theatre with mischievous humour and madcap style.  \nA timeless tale with a twist—this energetic adaptation bursts onto the stage (and maybe into the aisles). Expect laughs\, surprises\, and just a bit of delightful disorder! \n \n \n \n \n \n Dates/times/prices/programs are subject to change.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n View Seating Chart (PDF)\n \n \n \n \n \n Questions?\nContact our Box Office:\nMonday-Friday\n11:30 am – 5:30 pm\n607-734-8191 or\n800-724-0159\nboxoffice@clemenscenter.org\n\n \n \n \n \n \n Visitor Information>\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Ticket prices vary for each performance and are either Reserved or General Admission seating. Along the way\, they unknowingly help the goats\, bears\, and pigs\, preventing disaster—without any of the animals ever encountering a true villain. This imaginative retelling seamlessly interweaves three classic tales into a heartwarming adventure that celebrates friendship and courage. \n  \nCurriculum Ties: Puppetry\, Visual Arts\, Fairy Tales\, Rhyming Patterns \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Dates/times/programs are subject to change. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n School-Time Information>\n \n \n \n \n \n View Seating Chart (PDF)\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Ticket prices vary for each performance and are either Reserved or General Admission seating.
