The Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes, conducted by Toshiyuki Shimada, is joined by the Wyoming Seminary Dance Company to bring this children’s favorite to life through music and dance. Peter and the Wolf, composed by Sergei Prokofiev, uses different melodies, instruments, and “styles” of playing to represent each character, introducing students to the different sounds in the orchestra. Also on the program will be a sneak preview by the winner of the Hertzog Competition, a high school student who will perform as a soloist with the orchestra. A perfect way to celebrate Music in Our Schools Month!
Recommended for grades 3-12 (70 minutes)
Curriculum Connections: Music, Storytelling, Dance
A Study Guide will be available approximately one month prior to the performance.
